Nido | Modern 3D Printed Sculptural Candle Holder

Nido is designed around an open, rhythmic structure that places the flame at the center of the composition. A continuous sequence of curved elements surrounds the candle, creating a form reminiscent of a nest or a naturally protective structure.

When the candle is lit, light passes through the spaces between the elements and creates changing shadows around Nido. The design therefore extends beyond the physical object itself, allowing light and shadow to become an active part of its visual character.

Design Philosophy

A Form That Embraces Light

The name Nido means “nest” in Italian and Spanish. The name reflects the central idea of the design: a structure that develops around a central point and gently encloses what it holds.

Nido’s curved elements follow a continuous rhythm as they move around the center. Their gradual change in direction gives the object a sense of movement and reveals different combinations of lines and open spaces from each viewing angle.

At the heart of the structure, the flame becomes the visual focus. Rather than concealing the light, the surrounding form frames it and makes the flame an integral part of the design.

Production Process

Nido is digitally designed and produced using 3D printing technology. This method makes it possible to create a precise sequence of curved, repeating elements arranged harmoniously around the center.

Each element gradually changes in angle and direction, contributing to the overall movement of the form. Fine traces of the printing process remain visible on the surface, adding texture and detail to the larger structural lines.

Application

Nido is designed to create a small, warm point of light within an interior. Its low, open silhouette makes it suitable for dining tables, coffee tables, consoles, sideboards, and shelves.

When the candle is lit, Nido’s open structure allows the light to remain visible between the curved elements while keeping the flame at the center of the composition. In softer ambient lighting, the relationship between structure, shadow, and flame becomes even more pronounced.

When unlit, Nido retains its sculptural character and can be displayed as a small decorative object. Combined with materials such as wood, stone, concrete, glass, or metal, its curved and rhythmic structure creates a distinctive accent within the space.
